ADA truncated dome mats, also known as ADA tiles or tactile walking surface indicators are paver warning panels that aid the visually impaired navigating sidewalks and pathways. The purpose of the ADA dome mats is to provide a non-visual detectable warning surface that alerts pedestrians that a hazardous transition is coming. ADA truncated dome pavers are an essential part of ADA compliance on many properties.

ADA tiles are paver attachments that help guide those who are visually impaired by alerting them to the presence of hazards like intersections, pedestrian crossings, hazardous drop-offs, and more. ADA tiles use their bumpy, non-slip surface to help keep the visually impaired safe. Truncated dome tiles are mandated for use by the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Dome tiles are used at:
Truncated domes are not designed to be used in areas with vehicular traffic. They are used in areas where pedestrians move from pedestrian walking areas to spaces where vehicles travel. Truncated dome tiles can be felt by a walker, wheelchair or cane, or with a person's feet.
The method of installation for your ADA dome mat depends on its type. Some mats are peel and stick, others are installed directly on wet concrete.
To install ADA mats directly into wet concrete, place the tile on the curb ramp approximately 6 to 8 inches from the face of the curb, then use a rubber mallet to tamp the tile across the top, embedding it into the concrete. Create a 1/4 inch concrete-free edge around the perimeter of the tile using a radius edger, then use a steel trowel to float the concrete around the perimeter.
Apply a broom-finish to the tile. When the concrete is cured, remove the protective plastic wrap by cutting it with a sharp knife.
